Below is a list of my accounting marketing presentations and recent thought leadership videos. Due to COVID and some personal matters, I haven't been out on the speakers' circuit for the past few years. However, at this point, I am available to address select industry topics at a high level. If you'd consider having me speak at an upcoming meeting or conference, let's schedule time to discuss.

I co-presented in a session for the Association for Accounting Marketing dedicated to understanding the nuts and bolts of developing a marketing plan for accounting firms. With 2020 on its way out, firms are looking to ensure they are as ready as they can be for what lies ahead, and a marketing plan is the best way to help them move forward.
At the 2019 AICPA ENGAGE conference, I co-presented on how merging accounting and consulting practices into an established firm impacts the acquiring culture, delivery systems, professional development, business development, marketing, communications and technology processes. The challenges of integrating multiple offices are outweighed by the benefits of enhanced services, increased industry niches and a diverse culture.
Branding is at the top of most marketers' priority lists. We think logos, advertising, proposals and sponsorships but what about public relations? For many, PR often seems daunting but what if it moved up the priority list? In this session, I co-presented to share traditional and emerging public relations tactics that elevate brand awareness. I served as a webinar panelist for 200+ attendees where participating marketers shared case studies and insights for marketing and pursuing opportunities in client accounting services. The webinar accompanied the launch of a new white paper, for which I was also interviewed, entitled 5 Key Principles of Successful Accounting Firm Marketing. (see below)
I was interviewed for a white paper entitled "5 Key Principles of Successful Accounting Firm Marketing - How to Turn Marketing Into a Strategic Advantage" that detailed for accountants the key principles of successful marketing. The publication was a collaboration between CPA.com, BILL and the Association for Accounting Marketing. Click here to access the publication.
I facilitated a panel session at the combined 2017 AICPA ENGAGE and Association for Accounting Marketing conference entitled "Navigating Challenges and Establishing Accountability for Marketing Planning Success", which focused on implementing marketing plans at CPA firms. Topics ranged from internal communications to identifying sources of authority and accountability, benchmarking metrics and identifying team members' interests and skills. Also reviewed were examples of failures, lessons learned and common operational challenges.
Kicking off the combined 2017 AICPA ENGAGE and Association for Accounting Marketing conference, AAM President Lauren Clemmer and I fielded member questions and shared updates during a virtual coffee chat about accounting marketing and what the industry looks like in the future.
In a business radio interview format, I joined three corporate marketing leaders from the DC metro region to share personal stories about how our growth as individuals shaped us into the professionals we are today. The show, hosted by Herb Cohen, broadcasts on more than 40 radio programs throughout the United States.
I led a discussion among CPAs who provide services to nonprofits on the development of business proposals and bidding strategies. Discussion items focused on strategic value-adds to proposals such as benchmarking analysis, a firm's participation in leadership events and exclusive nonprofit industry groups, and a list of awards and recognitions. The session also highlighted strategies to stimulate meaningful conversations with CFOs and board members to understand an organization's service and support needs that are not necessarily reflected in a Request For Proposal.
I served as a panelist to discuss best practices for developing and sustaining effective niches. Topics included skill sets that are needed, the team-building process, resource allocation, measurement, management of simultaneous niches, and roles and responsibilities. The session ran at the 2015 Association for Accounting Marketing Summit in Orlando, Florida.
A writer for the AICPA interviewed me for an article on its AICPA Insights blog about how to personalize an accounting firm's marketing efforts.
I co-presented at the 2013 AICPA Nonprofit Conference on social media for effective networking and knowledge-building capabilities with a concentration on ways nonprofits can utilize LinkedIn as a networking tool. The presentation covered resources available for nonprofits, groups of particular interest to the nonprofit sector and communications strategies that lead to successful online relationships.
I led an in-depth, three-hour training session on the networking and public relations value of LinkedIn for Maryland Nonprofits on June 6, 2013. The presentation included a discussion on building a comprehensive profile, strategies for leveraging the group and job functions of LinkedIn for professional development purposes and analyzing how human relationships can thrive in an online environment.
I presented for the Nonprofit Roundtable of Greater Washington on how nonprofit leaders can use LinkedIn for networking, public relations and job search purposes. The presentation reviewed how to build relationships, appropriate LinkedIn etiquette and strategies to become a thought leader through participation in LinkedIn groups.
I co-facilitated a discussion at the 2012 CPAmerica International Marketing Roundtable on the importance of internal communications as it relates to the proposal development process, and highlighted identifying process stakeholders and the typical bidding process, and articulating all steps in the proposal development process. Participants also discussed the role of research in the process.
Serving as a panelist at a session hosted by CPAmerica International, I participated in a discussion focused on planning a website redesign process, steps to take throughout the process, what to avoid and tactics to implement that keep a website updated.
Following an invitation by CPAmerica International, I co-presented with other marketing directors and accounting professionals at the Central/Mountain Partners meeting (Dallas) and the Northeast Partners meeting (near Baltimore). The subject of both presentations was building and growing industry niches within an accounting firm.
